SSAT preparation -- HSPT option available
Call NOW for private lessons for Dec. or Jan. test....early prep for Next year
For 7th and 8th graders who want to apply to independent(private) schools this is a very important course. Students should look over the syllabus and materials closely with parents and come prepared each week to class. With hard work, students will make HUGE gains in scores in time for December, or especially January test dates. Scott has helped scores of students get into top academic schools -- and succeed once there. He can provide individualized assistance re: school choices, application process, and best school 'fit' for students.
Many students who want to succeed in the top public high schools also take this course to prepare for college prep rigor -- honors and AP courses -- hone skills, decrease test anxieties, and get a head start on SAT prep.
Description
* All sections of the test covered
* Read for quicker, more complete comprehension
The SSAT, a very demanding exam, was designed to measure general skills and knowledge of 8-11th graders who are applying for acceptance to the most rigorous high schools. Even the very brightest 8th graders can not expect to know everything on this test. This course will prepare students not only for a high score on what is, for them, a new and challenging style of test, but also for success once they find themselves in a rigorous college prep program. We learn how to think more logically, write clearly, and make excellent educated guesses. We also learn many new words, concentrating on the Latin and Greek roots that are most commonly found on the test, special test-taking strategies for each section, time-management skills, and when not to make an educated guess.
All students who follow the program see very significant gains from the practice test score they first take to the score they earn with their best efforts on Test Day. They also become more efficient with homework and classwork so that they more easily maintain high grades this year and in High School. Importantly, students learn to see more connections among all the disciplines they learn now and in the future.
One essential book should be purchased now and brought to the first meeting of the course:
Preparing and Applying for Independent School Admission and the SSAT
